It’s been too long since I did a tutorial of any kind, so I thought I’d share a pictorial of one of my latest design. So today I give you a Cute Owl Nail Art Tutorial in 8 steps 🙂
These are all the step summed up in one picture. I’ll share details for each step under the images below. The nail templates were created by Nails By Jema and can be found here. 🙂

Step 1

I started with a white base (OPI – Alpine Snow) without any top coat.

Step 2

I created a gradient using TL Design – Pink Cadillac, Polish My Life – Purple Flower Power and Polish My Life – 1950s Mint ‘Fridge with a make-up sponge from H&M. See the gradient in the previous blog post.

Step 3

Using my Nail Series 706 – Short Liner from Stylish Nail Art Shop I painted two oval shapes with one of my blue polishes from OPI.

Step 4

With a dotting tool I first dotted two white large dotts with the same polish I used for my base (OPI – Alpine Snow). I then drew a thin blue line around the shapes to create the outline of the white polish. When I was sure the white polish was almost dry, I created the black dots, and when that was dry I did the white dots in the right upper corner of the black dots. All the dots were created with different shaped dotting tools.

Step 5

Next I created the “ears” with my thin brush, and the nose using OPI – I Just Can’t Cope-acabana.

Step 6

The next step was to create the wings using a slightly darker blue nail polish. And the owl was complete 🙂

Step 7

For the surroundings I went with branches with leaves. They were created by blending different polishes to get the hue I wanted.

Step 8

The last thing I did was draw on the leaves. Again I had to blend polishes to get the hue I wanted, and I made sure not to blend the completely before I used them, so that I would get more dimension with both the branches and leaves. 🙂

Final result

The last thing I did was apply top coat. Make sure you wait until the polish has dried at least 15 minutes so that you don’t smear the design. When I create nail art with nail polish and not acrylic paint like most people do, I apply two coats of top coat to smooth out the design, because nail polish will be thicker on the nail than acrylic paint. I use my favorite top coat the Glisten & Glow – HK GIRL, and I always buy mine from NorwayNails. 🙂

That’s it! I hope you like this little pictorial and that you maybe get inspired to do some owls? 😛 I’m happy I got to share my process with you, and I hope you like it! 🙂
